Hello loves!

This fall we launched a Tokyo inspired capsule collection: a mix of nostalgic and romantic energy, reflecting the many beautiful and conflicting emotions of exploring a new city. The collection features distressed tees with a vintage feel, sheer skirting, cherry blossom inspired mesh patterns, and faded, butter-soft leather to transition from summer to fall. We invite you to explore this city through our eyes, as clashes of texture and silhouettes express the tension between intimacy and distance, romance and solitude.

The collection was also inspired by my first trip to Tokyo with Klemens seven years ago. I remember wearing a printed T-shirt with a white ruffle skirt, wandering through Omoide Yokocho and stopping to eat in a tiny izakaya. I was captivated by the contrast between the flowy and soft fabric against the busy streets and glowing neon lights.

Seven years later, we went back to Tokyo to shoot the first pieces of our F25 collection. We stayed for a week, mainly focusing on the shoot, but of course saved some time to revisit old spots and explore the vibrancy of the city.

Tokyo has this mix of high energy crowds and calm moments of intimacy. You can spend hours in the middle of flashing neon lights, and the next minute, you're in a little garden or accidentally wandering into empty streets.

We stayed in Shibuya, which is right in the center and very easy to get around. There's lots of shops, restaurants and the famous Shibuya Crossing, the busiest pedestrians crossing in the world, also called The Scramble. There's thousands of people crossing from every direction surrounded by all the flashing billboards and neon lights.

Shibuya is a great place to stay when visiting Tokyo because it has lots of connections to other areas and of course lots of food and shopping options.

I recommend staying in All Day Place Shibuya: cute rooms, great hotel restaurant and a cozy coffee place downstairs. For dinner you can't miss the famous Ichiran Ramen, where you customize your own ramen bowl and sit in solo booths getting served from a little window. Another place we really liked was みちのり (Michinori), a tiny hidden bar/restaurant with a cool vibe. It felt more local, like a secret few tourist knew about, which we loved.

For a romantic night out, or a more special evening, I'd recommend Kaikaya by the Sea, a Japanese fusion restaurant in a smaller alley away from the crowd. It's seafood focused and very cozy. All the fish is delivered directly from the sea by the owner, who has private purchase routes to make sure it's fresh for his guests. They welcomed us warmly and openly, and we had amazing sashimi and sake.

Another area where we spent a lot of time, especially for campaign shooting, was Shinjuku City. It's only seven minutes with train from Shibuya and it's one of Tokyo's biggest hubs. Anything you're looking for, I bet you can find it here. A true tourist's paradise, walled with neon lights, upscale restaurants, metropolitan energy, clubs, and karaoke bars. Their train station is one of the busiest in the world with over three million people passing through each day.

I would highly recommend checking out the district of Golden Gai, a little neighborhood with alleys full of tiny bars, so small that some of them will only fit six people.

Near the west exit of Shinjuku Station, you'll find the famous Omoide Yokocho, which means memory lane. It's a tiny alley full of yakitori bars and izakayas, and is famous for the small bars where you squeeze in about 10 people and eat grilled chicken skewers among the smoky aroma of the cooking surrounded by paper lanterns.

We also explored Shinjuku San-Chome, east of Shinjuku Station. It's full of bars and restaurants too of course, but feels more local and relaxed than the busier parts of Shinjuku. It’s popular with the LGBTQ+ community and has everything from amazing night life to modern wine bars - a great place if you want to get away from the busy and loud Shinjuku centre.

If you want to go shopping, Harajuku is the place. Takeshita Street is full of crazy shops and cafés to discover kawaii culture, pastel outfits and endless colorful accessories. In the '90s, this is where Tokyo teen fashion culture exploded, with styles like Lolita, goth and kawaii.

Close by you will find Cat Street. Immediately you'll notice it's very different from Takeshita Street with a more minimalistic tone and lots of international boutiques, vintage stores and local designers.

If you want something much more calm, you can visit Daikanyama, five minutes away with a train from Harajuku, or 20 minutes walking. It's clean and trendy with lots of cafés and breweries. Definitely check out Tsutaya Books. It's more than a bookstore, it's a whole concept space full of design, lifestyle and art.

One of the cutest and most special spots in Tokyo is the Gotokuji Temple, also known as the cat temple. Quietly located in Setagaya, around 25 minutes away from Shibuya, cat temple is famous for the thousands of Maneki-neko cats, little white cat statues that are believed to bring luck, wealth and happiness. Visitors can buy a little cat in the shop, make a wish and then return it to the temple once the wish has come true.

After a week of shooting content for MIKUTA and exploring the city, it was finally time to leave. I was nostalgic already, reminiscing about the amazing people, food, culture, and memories we made.

Every neighborhood has its own mood. The endless contrasts of Tokyo are what make it so special - romantic and edgy, chaotic and calm, exciting and lonely - just what we wanted to capture with our Lost in Love capsule.

Being there again reminded us why we first fell for the city the first time

Lots of love xx Jacqueline + Klemens
