Hello loves!

At the beginning of the year, we went to Mexico for a couple of weeks, a dream trip that finally happened at the perfect moment. The plan was to relax, eat as many tacos as possible, and search for the country's best Mezcalita.

We started the journey in Mexico City, then made our way down to Puerto Escondido, Mazunte and Oaxaca before heading back to CDMX to fly home.

Follow along as we take you through our favorite places with a few tips along the way.

MEXICO CITY

Two beautiful days in Mexico City.

Since we didn't have much time there, we decided to make the most of it. We walked around in different areas like Condesa, Roma, and Centro, taking our time and soaking up every moment. We were surprised by how lush and green it was, parks everywhere, trees lining the streets, plants growing over walls and balconies. It felt so peaceful walking around, like a jungle in the city.

We grabbed coffee and walked through the greenery, and stopped at a large market called Mercado de Artesanías La Ciudadela where they sell a mix of Mexican traditional crafts. There were so many colors, textiles, and little objects everywhere. The kind of place where you want to get everything.

In the end, we left with a few small souvenirs and collars for our little dogs at home.

If you're a vintage lover, CDMX is the perfect place for it.

We spent hours going through the pieces. Goodbye Folk and Casa Andante in Roma Norte were two of our favorites.

Food was of course a big part of our visit. We went to Mi Compa Chava Marisquería, a popular place which already had a long queue when we got there as it opened, but with a short wait, we got a table and tried a little bit of everything (and had our first Michelada of the trip)!

We also passed by Cariñito Tacos, a small stand with amazing tacos and a big crowd standing outside with music, eating and talking.

We had to try the famous Taqueria Orinoco, as they have it in several places in the city. It's a bit more structured than the street spots, but still easy. Simple menu, really good tacos, lots of sauces.

After eating our way through the city, on our last night, we ended up in Bar Félix, a cozy hub with outside seating where we enjoyed some Mezcalitas with good music before it was time to head back to sleep for an early flight to our next destination.

Food & Drinks: Cariñito Tacos, Mi Compa Chava Marisqueria, Taqueria Orinoco, El Habarenito, Bar Felix, La Buenavida Fonda

Shopping: Roma Vintage, Goodbye Folk Vintage Boutique, Casa Ananda Vintage Boutique Roma Norte, Calle Colima (nice street with lots of boutiques and cafés)

Exploration: Mercado de Artesanias La Cuidadela, Parque Mexico / Avenida Amsterdam, Roma Norte, Condesa, Centro Histórico

PUERTO ESCONDIDO

Then we took a quick flight from CDMX to Puerto Escondido.

Arriving there felt amazing. Mexico City is around 2000m above sea level which makes it quite chilly, so arriving to the warm air was so good after a long cold winter in Europe.

We stayed in La Punta, which quickly became our favorite area. Everything is close, and bit unpolished in the best way. Dirt roads, little cafés, people walking barefoot, surfboards everywhere.

The days were simple. We woke up, took long walks, rented a scooter and drove around to different beaches. We relaxed in the shade crocheting, listening to podcasts, eating fresh ceviche, and spent the evenings watching the sunset on the beach where everyone gathered. The next day, went for some tacos and played Yatzy.

No plans apart from chilling, our ideal vacation.

La Punta is known for surfing. In January, when we were there, the waves are lower, but the water can still be rough so you have to be careful. There are some other beaches close by, like Cazrizalillo and Puerto Angelito, both smaller bays where it's safer to swim and more family friendly. Bococho beach is also beautiful, more raw and wide.

We drove around to visit all the little taquerias along the streets. One of our favourites was Pepe's Fish Tacos, a bit hidden but so so good.

We also ate a lot of tlayudas, a typical dish from Oaxaca. We'd describe it as a large crispy tortilla topped with beans, cheese, meat, avocado, and sometimes more.

Beaches & Bays: Carrizalillo, Puerto Angelito, Rinconcito, Playa Bococho, Playa Coral, Agua Blanca (A bit furher away but worth the visit), Tip: Rent a scooter and drive around

Food & Drinks: Pepe's Fish Tacos, Punta Vida (Best place for Mezcalitas and sunset), Paraiso Escondido, Lava (Best pizzas if you crave something else), Tlayudas Los Primos, Dulce Ville PMX

MAZUNTE

Not far from Puerto Escondido, we went to Mazunte by scooter and it took us around an hour and a half. A beautiful drive, but by the time we arrived we were a bit exhausted. If we did it again, we’d probably take a bus or colectivo instead.

Mazunte is smaller, quieter, a bit more relaxed. It used to be a small fishing village with low houses, sandy streets with calmer water that's great for swimming. It’s known for its connection to nature, local ecosystems, and prioritizing a slower way of living.

We walked around, spent some time by the beach, had something to eat and just enjoyed the vibe for a few hours before our scooter drive back home.

Beaches & To do's: Playa Mazunte, Playa Mermejita, Punta Cometa for sunset

Food & Drinks: El Chiringuito Playa Mermejita, Punta sur Playa Mermejita

OAXACA

The 6 a.m. bus ride to Oaxaca took around 3 hours, but we slept through most of it due to the early rise.

Once we arrived, it got a bit chilly again because Oaxaca is 1500m above sea level, so make sure to bring a sweater or hoodie.

Oaxaca felt different from Mexico City right away. Smaller, calmer, and even more colorful, specially in Jalatlaco, famous for its vivid houses and street art.

We stayed for one night and spent most of our time just walking around. The streets are lined with bright buildings and art everywhere, plus little shops, markets and cafés.

Mercado Benito Juárez is a busy market with small stands everywhere selling spices and textiles. Right next to it is Mercado 20 de Noviembre where we stopped to eat. Simple food stalls, smoke from the grills and people sitting close together made the atmosphere feel alive.

We also went to the artisan market, which had a slightly more relaxed energy. More focused on crafts, woven fabrics, and unique handmade pieces.

Oaxaca is also known for mole: a rich, slow-cooked sauce made with different spices and sometimes chocolate.

In the evening we went to La Cueva, a cozy bar with lots of mezcal.

The next day, we made our way back to Puerto for a some last days by the beach before heading back to Mexico City.

Oaxaca has a strong sense of tradition behind it, and you can feel it instantly. We loved every second.

Exploration: Mercado Benito Juaréz, Mercado de 20 Noviembre (Food market), Mercado de Artesanías de Oaxaca, walk around Jalatlaco

Food & Drinks: Cantinita, La Cueva Oaxaca, Chichilito (known for its mole), Sabina Sabe
